Apparently we’re a geeky bunch. Via SAQ104, who desperately needs to leave the world of Xanga behind him, I learn our classmate Andrew Smith is also blawging. I particularly appreciate the fact that Andrew has also shed the cloak of anonymity and blogs as himself. I’m all for transparency in blogging and I’m a little mystified by the pervasive use of pseudonyms. Anyone care to enlighten me? I’d be open to hearing the other side.

A word or two on anonymity
Sure, if you’re anonymous lawyer and that’s your schtick it’s one thing, but seriously, why the cloak and dagger people? Are you blogging things you shouldn’t, hmmm…. yeah, yeah, yeah, plausible deniability, there are bloggers getting canned but (1) you aren’t really as anonymous as you think you are and (2) stand up for yourself! that’s why we have the 1st amendment and employment law (disclaimer: I won’t really know if either of those are all that helpful for a semester or two) and putting your name on something keeps you honest and accountable. Therefore I submit Gilman’s 1st rule of blogging.

Gilman’s 1st rule of blogging is this – If you don’t have anything nice to say, say it on someone else’s blog in the comments.

Identity crisis averted.

Back to Andrew
He actually goes one step further and puts some views out there, which further demonstrates his williness to put it on the line and
also happen to indicate that he must have worn an aluminum foil hat during his time at Baylor. Worth a read. Now we’ll see if we can get Shannon, er I mean, SAQ104 to divulge his identity. Oops…

You little bogger Gilman. Now the world knows it is truly I behind the canniving rants.
Well the biggest reason I don’t like using names, not so much my name but rather everyone elses, is that oftentimes I’m not talking about me but someone else. And yes it doesn’t take a genius to figure out who most people are but the random stranger that crops up isn’t going to know who I’m talking about but just sees them as a player in that context. Plus I think it adds to the universality of the whole thing. What’s happening to me is pretty unique but I think it makes it more accessible sans the names.
Plus I don’t want anyone to not get hired because I implicated them….

Your blog is really a wonderful place to spend time. I plan on reading more of your entries after our test on Thursday and commenting on a few. See you in class and best of luck this week.
