I was just informed of an interesting event coming up at South Texas. See details below. Oh and did I mention, NO CHARGE FOR LAW STUDENTS. Hard to beat that. If you have an upcoming event that may be of interest to law students, e-mail me.

On Saturday, September 15, 2007, Association of Women Attorneys and Texas Women Lawyers will present “The Meaning of JUDGE: Finding Your Place on the Bench.” This program will explore a question that lurks in the psyche of many lawyers: “Could I be a Judge?”

In exploring this question, speakers will address topics such as job satisfaction, the ethics and mechanics of running for office or obtaining an appointment, making the transition to the bench, recovering from the loss of an election, and the benefits of political parties and campaign consultants. This remarkable program will include speakers such as Ken Anderson, Governor Rick Perry’s Director of Governmental Appointments, Hon. Sheila Bailey Taylor, Chief Judge of the Texas Office of Administrative Hearings, Seana Willing, Texas Commission on Judicial Ethics, Hon. Lynn Bradshaw Hull, Hon. Caprice Cosper, Hon. Vanessa Gilmore, Hon. Hillary Green, Hon. Katie Kennedy, Hon. Lena Levario, Hon. Elizabeth Ray, Hon. Kathleen Stone, Bree Buchanan, J.D., Susan Hayes, J.D., Gerry Birnberg, Harris County Democratic Party Chair, and Jared Woodfill, Harris County Republican Party Chair and campaign consultants Mary Jane Smith and Mustafa Tameez.

The event will take place from 9:30 A.M. to 3:45 P.M. in the auditorium at South Texas College of Law, located at 1303 San Jacinto Street, Houston, Texas 77002.

Cost is $20.00 for members of AWA or TWL; $30.00 for non-members; and no charge for law students. To register, make checks payable to AWA and mail to:
