I buy books like women buy shoes. It's not what some might call a rational buying decision, with options considered and budgets checked and the costs weighed against benefits. Rather I'll find myself casually passing a bookshop on the way to somewhere I end up forgetting to go to afterwards. I'll just stop in here, I say, it's on the way to whatever it was.
